ABOUT ME
I am a qualified saddle fitter for both traditional saddles and Wow saddles. I completed the Wow training course in 2017, and went on to work with Louise Howsen of Shere Saddles as my mentor. I completed my traditional saddle fitting training and qualified as a Master Saddle Fit Consultant with the MSFC Academy in France. I also hold the Society of Master Saddlers Flocking qualification, which was taught by Laurence Pearman, Master Saddler.
I was one of the first group to undertake the Lantra Certified Bit and Bridle fitting course with the NS Academy, which has enabled me to work as an independent bit and bridle fitter.
I’m also qualified in Equine Sports Massage from The College of Animal Physiotherapy.
I cover the Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire areas from my base in Headley Down, Hampshire.
Horses have been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember, and whether they are old friends or new, spending my time in their company is the best part of my job.
My approach to fitting tack is first and foremost to be guided by the comfort of the horse. Whether it is to progress through the training or competition levels, or just to enjoy a hack in the countryside, being in balance and in comfort will go a long way towards being able to succeed in these goals. Recognising signs of discomfort and tension, and then working out how to alleviate these problems means being able to look at the whole horse from nose to tail - a 360° approach.
My inspiration for starting on this path was Saffi, a Dutch Warmblood mare who taught me so many lessons. She had lost most of her faith in humans, so kept her teeth at the ready, along with her hooves. After years of patience, her hard-won trust was an honour to hold. To see her welcome human interaction, indicating in no uncertain terms exactly where she wanted to be groomed or scratched and the sheer joy she eventually found in these sessions was the best reward I could ever wish for. She taught me that with patience and calm, a bond can still be created even if there seems to be nothing to work from.
My current horse, Larry, is a Connemara x TB, a happy, laid-back kinda guy, until we hit the sandy paths of Thursley Common, when he's convinced that he could be a racehorse!
